See the following research report that documents the emergence of a matriarchal culture among wild baboons:)

Neat!!!! I like the care you have taken to observe the neighbors and their personalities and needs. I like that you have encouraged them to BE neighbors.

I'm envious of your proximity and thus the study of these wild animals. I could easily become addicted to watching them...however, I am afraid that I would feel sorry for the picked on deer and thus would somehow interfer with nature by putting a joy buzzer in the feed of one of the hateful doe.

Very interesting... so ultimately it all boils down to having a personality best suited for survival! We see this all the time with human beings...esp, politicians...
It has been observed that many animal groups do have a matriarchal pattern. Does it come down from the : you male, hunt and provide while I female, nurture and care and so I know what is best for all of you...?

That jives perfectly with studies I have read about resilient (a/k/a healthy, sturdy, flexible) personality in humans. And longitudinal studies done with "high cry" or "low cry" babies are facinating. I enjoyed this post, and your thoughtful descriptions, immensely.

Hopefully they're not just eating the food and getting bigger and stronger while lying in wait, observing your habits, personalities, and pecking order, while developing an elaborate plan for a coup to take over the whole development, heh, heh.
