I face a peculiar problem in that approach. I completely understand the point of cutting down expenses to bare necessities. But for a techie like me, whose been earning a decent living and wants to transition into a artist lifestyle, there is a lot of resistance from family and society. I have been spending a lot of time in convincing people that its the right thing to do. I can always have my right of way, but being understood is a different matter.

Girish,

That's why many would-be artists stick with a 9 to 5 job. They and their family members cannot deal with the realities of a shift to a low-income existence.

Any start-up involves hardship, even one fueled by other people's money!

If you are concerned with what society thinks about your lifestyle, don't even consider supporting yourself as an artist. Keep your day job and consider your art as a hobby.

Grrr, the trackback didn't go thru...

But, the VBC is up, and you're linked!

On living lean and mean: My biggest expense, as a resident of the Bay Area, is rent! Living lean and mean here requires an income that would be solidly middle-class elsewhere. The only solution I see to this problem is to move. I'm willing to do that; however, moving is expensive, too.

It is amazing to watch money evolve from worthwhile to worthless. The United States is running the country on borrowed money. People are not succeeding in life, they are buying success and going bankrupt because they are not following any restraint or fear of loss. Their is always cheaper money to buy in the US. This is so dangerous and I believe the value of the US dollar would crash if the actual value that is placed on our own currency was understood by the
rest of the world.
